A Quick Conversation About Twitter

As discussed this week, social media has become a battleground for public opinion. This week, I am going to be focusing on the platform X. ever since Elon Musk has downloaded twitter, it has become a battleground for public opinion. Instead of creating a platform of free speech, Elon has created a heavily conservative biased platform. Here is an example of one of Elon's more divisive tweets:

Though X (Twitter as I'll refer to it as) was meant to be a platform of free speech, it has become a platform of bias and misinformation. This is a for a variety of reasons, but I believe that financial motives are one of the main reasons that Twitter has become an example of misinformation. Here is an example of financial misinformation on twitter:

Majoring, and working in finance currently, I have learned a lot about the landscape of financial information. Twitter is one of the least informative sources that I am aware of. Twitter is extremely controversial and has led to a lot of people being scammed, losing money, and falling victim to a variety of social engineering attacks.

There are a lot of ethical considerations that we should take into consideration when we are examining Twitter. Though free speech is extremely important, we should be examining whether or not this platform is detrimental to the populous as a whole. We should also be examining how this information. is affecting peoples daily lives, and applying our results to policy pertaining to first amendments rights.
